There are the following:

The hypocentre (or hipocenter)

Literally: "'below the center", from the Greek υπόκεντρον.
It is the place inside the Earth where an earthquake originates, causing the seismic waves.

Are waves that travel through the Earth. Can pass through the earth like water.

The epicentre (or epicenter)

From the Greek επίκεντρον.
Is the point on the Earth's surface that is directly above the hypocenter.

The force of an earthquake can be measured by seismographs.
